Self-care is such an important component of every-woman's mental-health, wellbeing and life fulfilment. Without adequate and consistent self-care practices, all our other success and triumphs are somehow negated. Instead of thriving, we are barely surviving, and all the while we are desperately trying to maintain the appearance that "everything is fine."
Many women have internalised the message (from media, parents, society, partners) that their primary role and value as a human being is in taking care of others, and that the appropriate place for women's self-care is dead last.
…to name a few.
As women, we develop habits of chronically neglecting our own wants, needs and desires.
Many women I speak with tell me that they feel enormous guilt when they even think about putting themselves first. they ask me: "Isn't that selfish?" - as though being selfish were dirty and shameful.
This guilt and shame is enough to turn them away from thoughts of self-care and keep them stuck in the toxic cycle of self-neglect and self-abuse.
Do you recognise yourself in the symptoms above? Are you asking your self: "Why aren't I thriving when life is generally good?"
The answer may very well be that your life is lacking in self-care.
Maybe you already know this, but don't know how to get started.
Many times, women first need the permission, to know that we need to take care of our own needs first, so that we can continue to be strong, empathic and available to those we love and help.
