Hot Tips, Cool Resources

April 2020

Hi all,

It's the end of the month and so it's time for some Hot Tips & Cool Resources...but first...

PERSONAL NOTE

The world has changed since I last wrote to you. Covid-19 has altered life as we know, and for many it has brought great challenges, stress and unemployment. Whilst others are finding there are some real positives to life impacted by coronavirus.

I hope you are doing well, and making the most of these interesting times we are living in. If you need support, I am (and always have been) just a phone call or a video call away.

Staying at home has been challenging for some, and fear of contracting the virus, or spreading the virus to other vulnerable people is the concern for others.

In times like this, I always recommend coming back to the sage advice from Stephen Covey.

Gratitude can also really help in challenging and stressful times. Here's one version of things to be grateful for in this strange new world...

TRAFFIC has gone,
FUEL is affordable,
BILLS extended.
KIDS are at home with their FAMILIES.
PARENTS are home taking care of their CHILDREN.
FAST FOOD replaced by HOME COOKED MEALS.
Hectic SCHEDULES replaced by NAPS, REST, and RELAXATION.
The AIR seems CLEANER.
The WORLD quieter.
PEOPLE are conscious about HYGIENE and HEALTH.
MONEY doesn't make the WORLD GO ROUND anymore.
DESIGNER clothing is pointless as nobody ever really needed it.
DOCTORS AND NURSES are being praised and recognized instead of athletes and celebrities.
And WE now have TIME, finally,
to STOP and SMELL the ROSES.

Take care and stay healthy in body, ind and soul x

HOT TIPS, ARTICLE

This month's theme is Motivation.

People say to me "Michelle, I just don't feel motivated" or "I'm waiting for the motivation to come - then I'll take action."

When I hear these kind of phrases it tells me that person's current relationship with motivation is a passive thing; they are waiting for something external to happen - for motivation to arrive, or to suddenly wake up feeling motivated.

And hey, you can sit around and wait for motivation to come - that's up to you - but you might be waiting a long time - and a lot of your life might pass you by while you're waiting.

But if you want to be a bit more proactive, then an alternative strategy is to make a decision and learn how to create motivation on command.

To do this, you simply need to understand the mechanics of motivation and how to stimulate it when you need it, as well as how to maintain and sustain it, and how to enhance and enlarge it.

Because motivation can be something you generate at will - not just something that mysteriously happens from time to time.

Decide to be in charge of your motivation.

Understand that, ultimately, the best motivation comes from within you and you can learn to call it to you whenever you need it.

COOL RESOURCES

Affirmations are great for motivation, and I know a little app that can help you make your affirmations into a habit. It's called Think Up and it allows you to choose different categories of affirmations, and then asks you to record them in your own voice, so every affirmation is personalised. You also get to decide when you want to be reminded to say your affirmations so you can set up a daily habit.
